The statue on the far left of the image is the figure of the dressed youth which is particularly rare in the Archaic art of Attica, although not uncommon in Ionia. Dating from 540 BC, the youth has oriental features and short neck which relates more to art of Ionia.

  • Greece. Samos. The statue group by the sculptor Geneleos on display at the Archaeological Museum in Vathy or Samos town. Dating from 560 - 550 B.C, the steeped pedestal originally contained 6 statues of which four have survived. The statues are representing a father, mother and children are of a distinguished family of the time.  Each of the figures has an inscription stating its name. The work displays interesting innovations that influenced the art of Ionia.
