The museum is a microcosm of the Cappadocia region with some spectacular rock formations and a cluster of several fine chapels, churches and monasteries with fine frescoes all dating from the 9th century onwards and built out of the volcanic tuff. The Museum is a UNSECO World Heritage Site.
