Athens. Greece. Part view of the monumental circular interior two story peristyle of the neoclassical Zappeion located at the southern end of the National Gardens in Athens. Designed by Th. Hansen and constructed from 1874-1888, the building was the first building specially built for the 1896 Olympic Games, in which it was used for the fencing competition. It was also used during the 2004 Olympics as a press and events centre.
