Doric style Stoa portico on the west side of the Agora. Ancient Messene. Peloponnese. Greece. The stoa was constructed in the 3rd century BC and continued to be used until the 4th century AD. The Stoa is connected to a peristyle courtyard which was the meat market. Ancient Messene was founded on the foothills of Mount Ithomi in 369 B.C as the ancient capital of liberated Messenia.
