Rhodes. Greece. Massive segments of Doric columns are the only remainder of the forgotten grandeur of the 3rd century BC Temple of Zeus Polieus and Athena Polias on Monte Smith, a hill to the west of Rhodes Town. The hill or upper acropolis which is named after British Admiral Sir Sydney Smith was the religious and ceremonial focus of the ancient 5th century BC city of Rhodes. The island of Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese Island group and one of the most popular Greek Islands.
