Perge. Antalya. Turkey. View of the north end of the colonnaded street, the main thoroughfare of the ancient city from behind the nymphaeum fountain. The fountain was built in the 2nd century AD, and was filled by spring water from acropolis hill above. The water then flowed through the city via channels. The street extended for 300 metres from the Hellenistic gate to the monumental fountain at the base of the acropolis. The street was lined with shops on either side and in its centre is a water channel that ran its entire length and helped cool the city.
