The Hellenistic section of the Sacred Way extended past the Harbour Gate and continued for 20 kilometres to the Didyma. Every year during the Hellenistic and Roman periods the citizens of Miletus made the pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Apollo at Didyma which was famous for it Oracle and enormous Temple. The ancient Greek city of Miletus is located in western Anatolia on the Aegean coast of Turkey.
