Rome. Italy. View inside the Santa Maria del Popolo of a tomb of a Cardinal. Dedicated to the Virgin, the church was commissioned by Pope Sixtus IV in 1472 and replaced an earlier chapel. The façade was updated by Bernini in 1660. According to legend, the church stands above the tomb of Emperor Nero. The church houses great works of art from the Renaissance period including those of Raphael, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Caravaggio, Pinturicchio, Andrea Bregno, Guillaume de Marcillat and Donato Bramante.
