Aspendos. Antalya. Turkey. View of the Roman theatre’s central pediment relief of Dionysos, Greek God and patron of theatres on the upper floor of the stage building. The theatre was built during the reign of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius (AD 161-180). Considered the best preserved Roman theatre of the ancient world, the theatre has a monumental two storey stage building and its semi-circular cavea has 40 rows of seats that accommodated 12000 people. The ancient city of Aspendos was founded by Greek colonists from Argos.
