Turkey. View of Pigeon Island from a ferryboat sailing away from Kusadasi, a coastal resort on the Aegean west coast Turkey. Used a military installation during the Ottoman era, Pigeon Island is a strategically situated island tucked away on the west of the harbor in Kusadasi. Connected to the mainland by a 350 metres long causeway, the ruins of 13th Byzantine castle can be seen and the wall which surrounds the island dates from the early 19th century.
