Building ruins at the Katsivelos archaeological site. Ancient Eleutherna. Crete. Greece. This site is located on the eastern slope of the Acropolis and houses Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine period buildings and antiquities. Eleutherna was one of the most important Dorian city states in Crete with continuous occupation from the 9th century BC to the Byzantine Period. Eleutherna is located 30 kilometres south east of the town of Rethymnon in the province of Rethymnon.
