Perge. Antalya. Turkey. View of the long broad marble paved colonnaded street, the main thoroughfare of the ancient city. The street extended for 300 metres from the Hellenistic gate to the monumental fountain at the base of the acropolis. The street was lined with shops on either side and in its centre is a water channel that ran its entire length and helped cool the city. The well preserved ancient city of Perge was founded by colonists originating from the Peloponnese in Greece.
