Possibly the port of Mycenae and mentioned as ‘well walled’ in the lliad by Homer, the 13th century BC Mycenaean fortress of Tiryns is considered a masterpiece of ancient military architecture and one the greatest cities of the ancient Mycenaean civilization. Tiryns is a Unesco World Heritage Site.
