  • Hadrian’s Arch. Athens. Greece. View of the Arch of Hadrian, a gateway of Pentelic marble built by Roman Emperor Hadrian in 132 AD.  The Arch marked the limit of the old city and the new city of Hadrian. It bears two contrasting inscriptions on each façade. One inscription, facing the Acropolis says “This is Athens, the ancient city of Theseus”. The other inscription, in picture, says “This is the city of Hadrian and not of Theseus”.
