Istanbul - Turkey 46 images Created 11 Jun 2019
Images in this gallery are from the Istanbul (also known as Byzantium and Constantinople), the large bustling historic capital of the republic of Turkey. The city was originally founded by Greek settlers in the 7th century BC and was named Byzantium. In 330AD, Roman emperor Constantine I elected the city as the new capital of the Roman Empire and it was known as the “city of Constantine”, Constantinople. The city was the keeper of classical culture and a stronghold of Christianity for a long while until continuous assaults from various aggressors diminished its power. It fell in the 15th century to the Ottoman Turk Empire.
